He was an enthusiatic antiquary. He annually visited Hadrian's Wall and organised 'Pilgrimages'in 1851 and 1886. He was Secretary and Vice President of the Society of Antiquaries of Newcastle. This work is a detailed description of finds, inscriptions & sculptures concentrating on Hadrian's Wall area but includes other related material such as a full page colour illustration of the Malpas (Cheshire) diploma

19 pp of text + 100 tinted chromolitho plates with pages of accompanying text, quarter leather, top edges gilt, copy no. 340, with loose label saying 'Presentation copy from the Council of the Society of Antiquaries of Scotland, Edinburgh 1881', folio size. Pages generally clean apart from a few faint smudges and a water stain on the fore edge of the first pages up to Plate I. Binding pulled in several places, back hinge cracked and front hinge broken, front free endpaper detached but present. Boards well rubbed and corners bumped. Spine also rubbed at raised bands, top and bottom edges. A survey of the tombstones of the old Highland chiefs and ecclesiastics, paying particular attention to the slabs.

lvi + 230pp + subscribers' list, 20 tissue guarded pls inc 7 hand coloured + figs and 1 map, some slight foxing to frontispiece of Mayer, original imp dec cloth, edges rubbed, corners bumped, with new spine & endpapers inserted, 4to, The Rev Bryan Faussett (1720-1776) of Heppington in Kent kept a diary intititled 'Inventorium Sepulchrale' recording his excavation of over 800 barrows and Saxon burials which he opened. His collection of finds were kept at Heppington, until re-discovered by Roach Smith, who published the diary and the finds in this volume. Also included is correspondence with James Douglas, who was a close associate of Faussett in his latter years. Faussett's grandson offered the collection to the British Museum in 1852, but the Trustees refused it, but fortunately it was then purchased by Joseph Meyer and it is one of the great treasures of the National Museum on Merseyside. The coloured plates are exceptional examples of Victorian coloured lithography printing and include an illustration of the Kingston brooch and other garnet jewellery
